GOOD DAYS AHEAD FOR DESIGN ENGINEERS.

It will be good days ahead for Design Engineers. The Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan campaign announced by the Prime Minister of India will give an impetus to the manufacturing field. Skilled Design engineers from Kerala had to migrate to Bengaluru, Pune or Chennai for job opportunities. But in the coming days companies will come to Kerala in search of Design engineers, as design is quite essential for manufacturing of any product. There exists perpetual scope for innovative products in the world. Now a day there are opportunities to develop one’s skill in the field of Design Engineering via online platforms. One can do designing job online with available technologies, because of which the technical graduates of Kerala, especially women are able to work from home or work near home.

Now is the best time for Kerala to step up the game. In IT or software development, Kerala has created a lot of job opportunities. We have IT parks not only in cities like Trivandrum, but also in Koratty or Cherthala like small towns. Likewise, Design Hubs should be established throughout Kerala, as they hold tremendous potential for Kerala. Malayali graduates possess talent higher than the national average. If importance is given to skill development and the establishment of Design Hubs, large industries will gravitate towards Kerala.

LEANING TOWARDS SELF-DESIGNING

Now there is a tendency among people to design and develop themselves such products which are of personal usage. The best example for this trend is designing of masks. In the future, there may be a 3D-Printer in every household, which can be used to make products catering to our needs. Customized products will fill markets in the near future. Those who bring forth viable innovative ideas and good value will win.

Covid-19 has brought about a change in the working environment, letting industries to catapult themselves to the new orbit. If this paradigm shift can be capitalised to seize new opportunities lying ahead, it would be beneficial for all.

KERALA NOW NEEDS DESIGN HUBS

As India starts to thrust more on indigenous manufacturing, there will be huge requirement for skilled Design Engineers locally. This benefits the field of Product Development overall. ‘Design for oneself’ could be the new trend. Those who apply innovation and sensibility judiciously will triumph.
